This 4 week lesson program is designed for SPA members who have already obtained a 2.0 Club skill rating level. In addition to refining your basic skills, this program will introduce drop shots and the concepts for movement and positioning during play.

 

Please register ONLY if you are able to attend ALL the sessions. Registration is limited. Register on the Event Calendar

 

Please wear appropriate attire, wear your name tag and bring your water bottle and paddle.

 

Below is an overview of the skills and concepts which will be covered during this program.

 

 

2.5 Aspirants Skills and Concepts to be covered in class.

 

 

DINKING:
Forehand down the line and cross court
Backhand down the line and cross court

DROP SHOTS:
Forehand and backhand (from transition area)

VOLLEYING:
Forehand and backhand volleys

SERVING:
From the even and odd courts

RETURN OF SERVES:
Forehand and backhand

 

Concepts to be covered:

  • Basic rules including the two bounce rule, kitchen line violations and player position relative to the score
  • How to keep score
  • Where to stand when serving and returning serve and player position relative to scoring
  • The most common way to grip the paddle (continental)
  • Basic pendulum swing on the forehand and backhand side and striking the ball off the front foot
  • Control on forehand groundstrokes (direction, depth, height)
  • Backhand ground stroke (to reduce running around the ball to avoid backhand)
  • Hitting zones: red, yellow, green
  • Drop shot by long dinking from the transition area
  • Proper forward and backward movement in a safe and balanced manner
  • A stable foundation (executing a split step) then proper ready position
  • Proper side step movement while being balanced
  • When to move forward to approach NVZ for dinks and volleys

 

At the end of the program, the instructor will assess each student’s skills and determine if they have met the requirements for a 2.5 skill level rating
